Drugstore Beauty Buys

A lot of the questions I get related to beauty products are about what my favorite drugstore beauty products are. Drugstore beauty products are the types of products you would find at Target, Walgreens, CVS, etc. A common misconception is that drugstore beauty products are bad or don’t work as well as high end beauty products, but that isn’t always the case. There are quite a few products that I prefer a drugstore brand over a high end brand!

This cream eye shadow is very similar to the MAC paint pot that I talked about in this post. The main difference is this version has a shimmer and the MAC paint pot does not. This is perfect to use as a base to your eye shadow. It adds just the right amount of shimmer and is great for summer!

While I have not used it myself, I’ve heard really great things about this contour palette. It is comparable to this contour palette by Tarte and is a fraction of the cost.

I have really dark under eye circles and this concealer does the trick to cover them. It is similar to this under eye concealer by IT Cosmetics, only the formula of the Maybelline version is a little more runny than the IT Cosmetics version.

I couldn’t do a post like this and not include my beloved honey balm stain 😉

If you have long eye lashes but are looking to add volume, this is a great mascara. I typically do two coats of mascara. For the first coat I use Maybelline the Rocket and for the second coat I use L’Oreal Voluminous. I prefer these two mascaras over any high end mascara I’ve ever used!

If you’re in the market for some new nail polish (let’s be honest, who isn’t?) these are really affordable and last a while without chipping.

I recently tried this eye liner and loved it! Soap and Glory makes some really great makeup and skin care products.

Next time you’re at Target, treat yourself and buy one of these products! I’d love to know what is on your list to try. 🙂

Beauty Loves Vol. 2

Today I’m sharing with you the second installment of the ‘beauty loves’ series. If you missed the first post check it out here. In this post series, I share a few of the beauty or beauty related products that I’m currently loving.

1. Essie Nail Polish  in shade Chinchilly

Chinchilly is a great neutral colored nail polish. My nail polish doesn’t have to match my outfit but it really bothers me when it completely clashes. This color is great because it never clashes with my outfit and depending on what I’m wearing, a different undertone is brought out in the polish.

2. Hourglass Ambient Light Blush in shade Luminous Flush

This is a blush mixed with a highlighter that gives your face the prettiest soft and subtle glow. I love using this in the summertime but it also comes in handy during the dreary winter months to give your face something extra.

3. Revlon ColorBurst Balm Stain in shade Honey

I affectionately refer to this product as my ‘honey balm stain’. I don’t know how it started but my sister, mom and I all call it that. This is my all time favorite lip stick and I’m convinced that this shade looks great on everyone. The formula is great; it’s moisturizing, not too sticky / tacky and the color lasts a long time.

4. Ponds Makeup Remover Wipes

These makeup wipes are great for traveling or every day use. The evening soothe version of these wipes are my favorite, mainly because they smell amazing. Also, I love that they give me the ability to take my makeup off anywhere – watching a movie, in the car, etc.

5. Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo

I don’t wash my hair every day and this dry shampoo makes it possible. A lot of dry shampoos I have used in the past have left a lot of residue on my hair and have a very strong scent that ends up giving me a headache. This dry shampoo smells great, leaves no residue and my hair feels clean after using it.

Holiday Gift Guide

The amount of days until Christmas are slowly decreasing… have you done your shopping yet? I had so much fun creating this little gift guide to provide you with some inspiration if you’re stumped on what to get someone.

Have a beauty loving friend/mom/sister? How fun would it be to receive this highlighter and this pretty brush? The shades in this eye shadow palette are all matte, versatile and stunning.

You can never go wrong with anything from Rifle Paper Company, in my opinion. I mean how beautiful is this calendar? And this art print? Ugh, I love everything they sell.

How fun would it be to receive a cast iron tea kettle? The one linked above is pretty pricey but I’ve seen quite a few similar options at T J Maxx for a fraction of the cost. This candle smells amazing; and how pretty is the container it comes in?

All of these gifts are great because you don’t even need to know the person’s size. I especially love all of these items because they are fun splurge that someone may not typically buy. I hope this can provide you with a few last minute ideas, in case you need them!

Do you typically procrastinate your Christmas shopping? Or do you try to get it done far in advance? I’m somewhere in the middle. 🙂 Let me know how you do your Christmas shopping in the comments below!

My Everyday Makeup

These are some of my favorite and most used beauty products that I use on a day-to-day basis. With that being said, I do tweak my eye shadow, blush and lipstick depending on the day but for the most part, this is what I wear most often.

I work in an office so I try to keep my makeup clean and neutral. The Tartelette Eye Shadow Palette is great for achieving looks that fit that criteria. All of the shades are matte, allowing me to create a relaxed yet professional look. The tagline for the IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream is “your skin but better” and it feels exactly like that; never sticky or heavy. No matter how much sleep I get, I have dark circles underneath my eyes. The IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer is great for concealing and brightening my under eyes. I use the IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Pressed Powder to set the concealer underneath my eyes and anywhere else it feels necessary.

I love the Tarteist Contour Palette to add some definition to my face. This is a powder contour palette so the results are a lot less intense than a cream contour palette.  Finally, I cannot say enough good things about the Revlon Color Stay Balm Stains. These are my absolute favorite because they are hydrating, have great color and last for a long time. My two favorite shades are Romantic (pictured above) and Honey.

It is important to me for my makeup to last all day and all of these products pass the test. If you have any other questions about any of these products, ask me in the comments below!

Do you use any of these makeup products currently? Are there any that you would like to try?

Beauty Loves Vol. 1

I love watching and/or reading makeup reviews on blogs or YouTube… Spending time in Ulta/Sephora… Talking to my friends about different makeup products their loving… or picking my makeup artist friends’ brain about what products she swears by.

I thought it would be fun to start a little post series where I share makeup products I’m currently loving.

1.  Tarte Cheek Stain in shade blissful

Not too heavy, easy to apply and a great natural flushed look without looking too put together.

2. NYX Highlighter

I’ve been really surprised by how much I’ve enjoyed this highlighter. There are many others to choose from but at this price point, I’m really impressed with the product! A great glow to finish off any makeup look.

3. IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream

A great everyday foundation. Light to medium coverage with a flawless finish. Not too matte but not too dewy. I would highly recommend this. Especially if you’re new to foundation or makeup in general.

4. Tarteist Contour Palette

The perfect contour palette. All matte, extremely pigmented, great coloring. I use this everyday to give my face a little more definition. I can’t say enough good things about it!

5. MAC Paint Pot in shade painterly

If you follow beauty, you know everyone raves about this product. The reviews are true, this stuff is amazing! I use it as an eye shadow base and my eye shadow lasts all day long.
